The " GateHouse" serving as the Reception Main Hall  the now largely demolished prison complex, at  319 Governor's Court in the Sapperton area, of New Westminister, former Capitol of British Columbia has new owners which was constructed in 1877 after major unexpected delays that slowed construction and set back completion. It was the first federal penitentiary west of Manitoba. According to Heritage Records it has New Ownership, with plans for a New Restaurant and Professional Offices. See also:An entire New Westminster neighbourhood used to be a massive prison (PHOTOS) According to New Westminster Public Library, it was Entry point for occupants when it opened the following year,in 1878 and it operated until 1980, when the federal penitentiary was phased out in favour of smaller, modern prisons. Over the past few decades since the decommissioning of the facility, other buildings on the prison grounds have been demolished for a residential neighbourhood with nearly 1,000 homes.
