Sports betting, new Biden order on vaccines News 12 CT's John Craven shared two updates from Gov. Lamont on social media. The governor also responded to @POTUS' new vaccine mandates: "I think it makes a lot of sense. It keeps your fellow employees safe, everybody around them safe. If you run a store, it makes the folks come in to buy something feel a lot safer. I think it makes some sense"— John Craven (@johncraven1) September 10, 2021 UPDATE: Tonight @GovNedLamont said on-site sports wagers could start in days "I think you'll see @FoxwoodsCT & @MoheganSun start the sports betting on-reservation relatively soon. Off-reservation we still have to get the regulations in place & that could take another 2 or 3 wks"— John Craven (@johncraven1) September 10, 2021 COVID-19 update The weekly coronavirus death toll in the state has fallen off the pace it has set since the first week of August, and federal health officials expect more of the same through the beginning of October. This week, the state Department of Public Health has reported just 22 new deaths. Last week, DPH reported 39 new deaths, up from 25 the previous week. Overnight, DPH reported a coronavirus positivity rate of 2.93 percent in the state, on the back of 626 newly confirmed cases and 21,386 tests. The number of Connecticut residents hospitalized with the coronavirus has been steadily, if slowly, dropping since the last week in August. Ten more beds were freed up overnight, according to DPH, which brings the number of COVID-19 patients requiring health facility care in the state to 354. We'll never forget Lamont announced that he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, September 11, 2021, in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 people who were killed in the 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. Accordingly, since no flag should fly higher than the U.S. flag, all other flags – including state, municipal, corporate, or otherwise – should also be lowered during this same duration of time, the governor's office announced. In addition, Lamont announced that the state will illuminate the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge in New Haven – informally known by many residents as the Q Bridge – in red, white, and blue lights beginning at dusk on the evenings of Friday, September 10, and Saturday, September 11, in recognition of the anniversary. Beacons capable of projecting light nearly six miles into the clear night sky will be lit until the early morning hours. Community members, friends and family laid roses over the 9/11 memorial at Sherwood Island State Park to honor loved ones who were killed in the attacks 20 years ago.
