Here are the top stories today in Burlington: City Council terminated Burlington Aviation Director Gene Richards on Thursday night. In a 10-1 vote, councilors felt it was "untenable" to keep Richards employed with the city because his relationship had eroded with the mayor and his employees. Richards refused Mayor Miro Weinberger's request last month to resign after an investigation found that he mistreated employees. (vtdigger.org) The American Civil Liberties Union of Vermont is accusing Burlington leaders of misleading residents about crime. The mayor and police chief say cuts to the police department are harming public safety but the ACLU says stats show crime is trending downward in Burlington. They have sent a letter to the mayor criticizing the misinformation regarding public safety and policing data in the city.
