HARFORD COUNTY, MD —Harford County government held a ceremony Friday to recognize the 20-year anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
"It was much like this morning — not a cloud in the sky, fairly cool — and I can remember it like it was yesterday," County Executive Barry Glassman said of 9/11. He recalled emergency personnel running toward danger.
"We lost a lot of folks on that day," Glassman said. "We also have a lot of folks that are still recovering, that breathed the dust for two weeks while they dug our brothers and sisters out of the rubble."
Glassman asked the community to take a "few moments as we remember that day" at 8:46 a.m. when the first plane hit the first tower at the World Trade Center.
"It is a date that we should never forget," said Glassman, who has held a 9/11 ceremony each year he has been in office as county executive. "We should always remember."
A student from Bel Air High School played "Taps" at the event, held outside the Harford County government administrative building on Main Street.
