Here are the top stories today in Irving: A gunfight in a parking lot near Elm Street and Malcolm X Boulevard resulted in stray bullets that seriously injured an innocent man. The man was struck by two bullets, although he was not involved in the argument that resulted in gunfire, police say. Bullets also entered a nearby apartment. The victim is expected to recover. (FOX 4 Dallas)Workers at a patrol station at 9900 E Northwest Highway had a stressful afternoon Thursday after a member of the cleaning crew found what police described as a "suspicious package." All personnel was evacuated from the area as the police department's Explosive Ordinance Division inspected the item. The scene was cleared after an investigation determined the item was a vacuum cleaner motor. (NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth)Here's an update on COVID in Dallas County: Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) reported 1,184 additional positive cases COVID-19 as of 3:00 PM September 9. There were 3,518 hospital admissions for confirmed COVID cases, though ICU bed occupancy is down by two.
