HOUSTON, TX — A suspect in a quadruple homicide killed himself when he realized he was about to be arrested Thursday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.
William Escaño Yah, 23, shot himself in the head as he saw officers approaching his truck on the 6200 block of Alder Drive, according to police. Yah was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Yah was wanted in the killing of his mother, stepfather and two siblings, who were found in their burning home at 7518 Imogene St. on Sunday. The victims were identified as Elvira Yah, 44, Jairo Escaño, 37, and their children, 13-year-old Isabel Escaño and 10-year-old Jairo Escaño Jr.
HPD Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir said the truck was identified as missing from the Imogene Street crime scene and that Escaño Yah met the description of the suspect. He added no gunshots were exchanged between Escaño Yah and police.
The gun recovered from the scene was "similar to the one used at the original scene," Bashir said. He added the weapon will undergo testing to determine if it is the weapon in question.
There are no other suspects in the quadruple homicide, according to police.
