Press release from the Austin Chamber of Commerce - Blog: 09/08/2021 Insights Insights Job Postings measured in this report refers to the employers who are actively advertising online, it is not a representation of Job Openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month. There were about 88,000 Available Job Postings during the August 2021 monthly reporting period, a decrease of 500 postings compared to the previous month. There were 33,000 New (first-time) Job Postings, an increase of 4,500 postings when compared to the previous month. New (first-time) Job Postings in August 2021 represented 38 percent of all Available Job Postings,showing more new jobs are being posted by employers. 15 percent or 13,300 of the all Available Job Postings during the August 2021 reporting period fell under the Computer and Mathematical Occupations, the top occupational group in our region. This is followed closely by Management Occupations which represents 14 percent or 12,400 Available Job Postings, showing also a strong need for experienced or senior talent in our region. There are currently about 440 postings indicating vaccination requirements or mentions, a four-fold increase from May 2021. Most of these postings are related to retail and child care/elder care. There were 2,100 postings in January 2021 that offered "signing bonuses", which has increased to slightly over 6,000 in August 2021. Last August, there were only 1,200 postings with signing bonuses. The current top occupations that are offering signing bonuses are Registered Nurses, Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers, Software Developers and Software Quality Assurance Analysts and Testers, Sales Representatives, and Licensed Practical and Licensed Vocational Nurses. 38 percent or 33,600 of all Available Job Postings pay an annual median wage between $30,000 to $65,000. Of these, 58 percent or 19,300 will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education while 16 percent or 5,500 will require a bachelor's degree. There are about 3,300 Available Job Postings that specifically offer "work from home" opportunities. The top three occupations that offer "work from home" opportunities are Software Developers and Software Quality Assurance Analysts and Testers, Sales Representatives, and Customer Service Representatives. According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the Austin MSA reported an unemployment rate of 4.2% or 54,600 unemployed in July 2021. More jobs ahead. In August 2021, the Austin metro region saw another 3 more Californian companies make new relocation announcements, bringing the total to 27 for this year alone. A total of 1,425 jobs were announced through new relocation or expansion plans in the Austin MSA for August 2021. Amazon Austin Delivery Station (Seattle, WA), Anheuser-Busch (St. Louis, MO), Amanino (San Ramon, CA), Cangshan Cutlery (Chino, CA), Cooperative Laundry (Kearny, NJ), Fincons Group (Berlin, Germany), GovOS (Dallas, TX), Green Dot (Pasadena, CA), Ovivo (Salt Lake City, UT) and Poppi (Dallas, TX) are the companies that have announced new location plans, creating 1,120 new jobs in Austin. The expansion list representing 305 jobs, includes Cassava Sciences, Cloudflare, DJO Surgical, Fast Friends Beer Co., Favorite Brands, Fundr Capital, NinjaRMM, QuotaPath, Skyworks Solutions, SonarSource, Sprinklr, Texas Original Compassionate Cultivation and Wheel.
