Boy, 16, Charged In Pasadena Burglaries

PASADENA, CA — A 16-year-old boy was charged Tuesday in connection with a series of burglaries in Pasadena, police announced. The teen was charged with four felony counts of first-degree residential burglary and one misdemeanor count of illegal firearm possession by a minor, according to the Pasadena Police Department. His name was not being released because he is a minor. The boy remains in custody and is being held at Central Juvenile Hall. No bail information was available. The teen has family in the Pasadena area, police said. It's unknown if he was living with or visiting family members at the time of the burglaries. The burglary charges involved a series of thefts that were reported in Pasadena between Aug. 29 and Sept. 2, according to police Lt. Keith Gomez. At least eight houses were burglarized close to each other, and Gomez said they were all broken into similarly. Residents were at their houses during the burglaries, but no one was injured, Gomez added. "The suspect would commonly enter a residence via unlocked rear doors to steal easily accessible items such as wallets, purses and vehicle keys," he said. "The suspect would also rummage through unlocked vehicles parked at the same residences." After two burglaries were reported on Sept. 2, police saw a person appearing to hide on the front porch of a house near where the crimes occurred, police said. The person was identified as the teenager. Pasadena burglary detectives later searched the house where the boy was and found clothing matching that worn by the burglar, as well as items that had been taken in the burglaries and a stolen gun, according to Gomez. The teen was arrested at the house.
