Immaculata University expands its nursing facilities opening a new nursing simulation laboratory. The new lab opens with a ribbon-cutting event on Friday, September 10. Immaculata University annually educates over 350 nursing students within the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing, and Doctor of Education in Higher Education: Nursing Education concentration programs. "Students will benefit from practicing in a simulated hospital environment that will prepare them for the real world of nursing," states Sharon Barnes, Ph.D., RN, assistant professor and manager of the clinical simulation labs. The nursing simulation lab, located in Loyola Hall, will be equipped with two health assessment beds and four simulation beds, that include adult and infant simulation mannequins. An observation room will allow students to observe the simulations virtually on a television monitor. The new lab space also includes a control room, where faculty facilitate the simulations. "Immaculata is extremely grateful for the generosity of the many donors to the simulation lab," says Angela Tekely, vice president for academic affairs and provost. "With the support of our donors and the greater community, the new nursing simulation will support the University's growth, while providing our nursing students will new resources to excel in their nursing profession." Eighteen donors, including Immaculata alumni, estates, and charitable foundations, contributed to the construction of the new simulation lab and the equipment to operate the lab. Today's Immaculata University is a vibrant coeducational community of active and engaged learners. Established in 1920 and guided by the servant leadership tradition of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the university empowers graduates for lifelong success, leadership and service. Immaculata offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate programs and is home to 21 NCAA athletic teams plus a coed esports team. The expansive suburban campus is located in renowned Chester County, Pa., 30 miles west of Philadelphia.
