ZION, IL — A 26-year-old man wanted for in connection to an attempted homicide escaped Lake County Sheriff's custody Wednesday and had not been found as of Thursday afternoon, officials said. Deontae Wade was called to the Lake County Sheriff's Community Based Correctional Center on Wednesday to have his electronic monitoring device removed after being discharged from a domestic battery sentence he received in 2020, a spokesman for the office said. Before Wade could arrive, officers were alerted to a McHenry County arrest warrant for Wade in connection to a shooting which took place on Aug. 29. When Wade showed up to have his anklet removed, police said they tried to arrest him, but the man "was able to defeat their attempt to handcuff him," according to a statement. Police said Wade then fled the building and either took off or deactivated his monitoring device. The sheriff's office told Patch the Aug. 29 shooting took place while Wade was under electronic monitoring. As of Thursday afternoon, deputies and detectives were still looking for Wade. A statement from police said Wade most likely called a friend or family member for a ride out of the area. Wade now has a McHenry County arrest warrant and a Lake County escape warrant.
