ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police handled cases involving a contractor dispute, a stranger in a house, trespassing teens, questionable activity at a dealership, a DUI and a scam. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Contractor incident A man told police that a building repair contractor threatened him with a multi-tool about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of West Armitage Avenue. They were in a dispute over spilled sealant. The suspect is described as white, 59 years old, 5-foot-7, 160 pounds, having a gray hair and goatee, and wearing a gray T-shirt and blue jeans. An investigation is pending. The police are listing the crime as aggravated assault. Stranger in house A resident in the 800 block of South Spring Road told police that a stranger pushed him while he was at his house about 2 p.m. Wednesday. The case is pending an investigation. Trespassing teens A doorbell camera showed that two teenagers climbed on an ADT home security box to gain access to the roof shortly after midnight Monday at a Mary Queen of Heaven building, 442 N. West Ave. The ADT box fell to the side of the building, and the teens ran away. Both teens were described as white, having thin builds and wearing light-colored shirts. One was wearing dark shorts, the other one light-colored shorts. Questionable activity While on patrol, an officer noticed a man standing next to a newer model red SUV, possibly a Nissan Rogue or Mazda, which was parked with its lights on, about 11 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot at the Larry Roesch Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership, 200 W. Grand Ave. As the officer approached the dealership, the suspect vehicle sped away. Officers searched the area, but could not find the vehicle. In the area where the suspect was, a vehicle appeared to have been lifted and quickly dropped. It did not appear to have any damage or parts missing. DUI Anthony Lira, 71, of Elk Grove Village, was arrested about 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Charles and Spring on charges of DUI and driving on an unsafe tire. He was released on bond. According to a police report, an officer contacted Lira after seeing his car was disabled. Converter theft A catalytic converter was stolen from a car between noon Friday and 10 p.m. Sunday in a parking lot in the 100 block of East Park Avenue. The metals in converters have become a lot more valuable in the last year. Scam A resident in the 400 block of West St. Charles Road received a phone call from a person posing as a Social Security Administration employee on Thursday. Upon request, the resident provided the suspect with personal information. After the resident called police, an officer gave the resident information on how to protect himself against identify theft. Fugitive driver An officer tried to stop a car that was reported stolen, but the driver sped away. It happened about 3 a.m. Wednesday at Lake and Interstate 290. Stolen car confusion About 8 a.m. Wednesday, an officer stopped a car that was reported stolen in Chicago. The suspect was taken into custody. Upon further investigation, the police discovered that the victim had given the suspect permission to take the car. The suspect was released without charges, and the vehicle was returned to the owner. Bike theft A bicycle was stolen overnight Tuesday from an unsecured laundry room in the 400 block of West St. Charles Road. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
