Press release from UNC Greensboro Athletics: 9/10/2021 12:00:00 PM Story Links "I am invincible, unbreakable. Unstoppable, unshakeable. They knock me down, I get up again. I am the champion, you're gon' know my name." – Carrie Underwood "Champion." GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Those powerful lyrics from the iconic song that opened NBC's broadcast of Super Bowl LII perfectly sums up the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer senior class. Leaving behind a legacy of excellence and perseverance that will never be forgotten, UNCG will celebrate 10 special seniors when it hosts Campbell on Sunday night at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match. With everything that has happened in our country over the last year and a half, the Spartan seniors have had their faith, patience, and resilience tested in a multitude of ways. Ashley Avelino, Ashley Bido, Kayla Campbell, Seraiah Dunham, Caroline Fiorella, Jordin Mosley, Natalie Sabiston, Nicole Souply, Gracie Timbario, and Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper responded like champions while simultaneously motivating their peers, coaches, and administrators. In addition to an appearance in the 2018 NCAA Championship Tournament, winning a SoCon title, and making two appearances in the SoCon Tournament, all 10 of our seniors earned SoCon Honor Roll designations for the 2020-21 academic year. This group of seniors has won 30 matches and compiled a .600 winning percentage. Regardless of the win-loss record or numbers on the scoreboard, they are already champions. They persevered through a global pandemic, increased social injustice awareness, a divisive political environment, and an unusual spring season with just four home matches all the way while trying to balance being a student-athlete. The senior class remained UNCG's anchor during the storm of adversity, lighting the way and providing their teammates and other UNCG student-athletes the courage to shine bright, which was admirable. They say a path without obstacles leads to nowhere. Well, just imagine where these young ladies are headed because their road has been anything but smooth. Each moment of adversity has prepared the talented ten for greater rewards once they leave UNCG. In pouring every ounce of heart, sweat, and blood they've invested into soccer, this class is dignified, disciplined, and dedicated. These special Spartans had an unquenchable thirst for any challenge and the insatiable hunger to conquer the obstacle. I was blessed to have the opportunity to get to know many of these seniors during my short time here on campus and have learned how phenomenal they are. They are tremendous ambassadors for women athletes across the country. They always had a kind word for me and responded timely to interview requests, which is a strategic communicators dream. During their amazing careers, this diverse and dynamic senior class have played with humility, perseverance, and courage. This class achieved their dreams, didn't close any doors, loved competing, and enjoyed their teammates. They have left a legacy – that has nothing to do with statistics – to which their younger teammates can aspire. A well-deserved salute for Avelino, Bido, Campbell, Dunham, Fiorella, Mosley, Sabiston, Souply, Timbario, and Tyler-Cooper, who always played with grit and graceful extravagance. The UNCG women's soccer program is much better because of their hard work, sacrifices, and presence. Thank you for remaining positive, lifting each other up, embracing the grind to greatness, and inspiring somebody else's dream.
