BERKELEY, CA — A man who last month threatened a 5-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the incident, the Berkeley Police Department said. The Alameda County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday charged the 27-year-old with no known address with a felony for making criminal threats, police said. A mother and her 5-year-old son were walking on Telegraph Avenue near Ashby Avenue Aug. 30 at 8:30 a.m. when the suspect approached them, police said. The suspect started ranting incoherently and then grabbed the child's wrist/jacket cuff, according to police. The suspect threatened to harm the child when the mother tried to pull her son away from him, police said. Fearing the suspect was going to hurt them, the mother and son ran to the safety of a nearby grocery store and called for help, police said. Responding officers spotted the suspect a few blocks away and arrested him, according to police.
