Industrial Source/National Fire Fighter Corp., is a 3rd generation family-owned, dynamic company and a recognized leader in welding/industrial supplies & fire protection services. Due to explosive sales growth we are adding a full time Cylinder Maintenance Tech to complete our Springfield Fill Plant Team. The position responsibilities will be shared within the following areas: Cylinder Maintenance, 90% of daily work schedule: Responsible for operating our Ultrasonic Examination (UE) Machine to perform cylinder inspections. The machine utilizes high frequency sound waves to measure physical properties such as thickness measurements to verify the cylinder is safe for use. This process additionally involves making sure compressed gas cylinders maintain DOT standards by visually identifying material flaws including cracks, corrosion or other defects, sand-blasting cylinders to remove all paint, safely operating the UE machine to verify cylinders meet required pressure standards, stamping cylinders with required markings, and painting those cylinders using a paint gun in a paint booth. This position will eventually be cross-trained in other areas of our fill plant such as filling CO2 and hydrocarbons. Key Responsibilities: • Inspect gas cylinders to detect surface defects and test thickness of cylinder walls. • Operate computer equipment and valve machine (if applicable) to conduct testing. • Understand and follow procedures for UE testing. • Operate forklift, pallet jack and other equipment to safely move gas cylinders off pallets onto testing equipment. • Inspect, maintain and perform maintenance on ultrasonic testing equipment. Calibrate and adjust ultrasonic testing equipment to required standards and settings. • Record test results, cylinder serial number, and test date in a timely and accurate manner. Stamp test date and label gas cylinders once ultrasonic testing is complete. • Review and interpret test results and documentation as it relates to local, state, and federal compliance and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. • Ensure that defective cylinders or those requiring maintenance or repair are removed from service until corrected. • Completion of 40-hour Ultrasonic Testing training course and certification required (provided by our company) • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity to hand tools • Demonstrated knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division • Detail oriented with the ability to complete handwritten compliance documentation neatly and accurately • Ability to routinely move 25 – 75 lbs., and occasionally transport 76 to greater than 100 lbs. with the aid of material handling equipment Delivery, Back Up Class B CDL: 10% of daily work schedule: Safely operating a Class B delivery truck to deliver compressed industrial, medical, and specialty gases, as well as industrial/welding equipment and supplies to customer locations throughout the Springfield area. Class B CDL with hazmat and air brakes endorsements is preferred, as well as current medical card and safe driving record. Don’t have a CDL? We will train the right candidate.
