Garden of Learning is a licensed pre-school and childcare for 3-5 year-olds, as well as school-agers up to age 11, for before and after care and our Summer Adventure camp program. The program offers a well-rounded curriculum designed to teach the whole child, academically, physically, socially, and emotionally, and foster respect for the natural world. Our rich, “hands-on,” MD state approved curriculum includes daily arts and crafts, music and movement, math, science, reading, outdoor play, center time and key social-emotional goals. Our students benefit from small student/teacher ratios with classes led by highly qualified teachers. We continue to meet the children’s needs through ongoing assessment and parent/teacher conferences, twice per year. We offer excellent kindergarten preparation. We are also both Credentialed and quality rated in Maryland Excels. We are very serious about following best practices for avoiding COVID. All staff are fully vaccinated. We thoroughly sanitize all toys and surfaces, practice social distancing and ask parents, staff and children, ages 5 and up, to wear masks. The overall goal of Scotia Mortensen, Director and Head Teacher, is to advance each child to the best of their abilities in a fun, nurturing environment. Garden of Learning has ample, beautiful space, indoors and outdoors. Our playground is ideal for children of all ages to spread out and enjoy daily exercise. The rates are affordable, and our school offers a warm, family-like environment where each child is valued. With a focus on school success, Garden of Learning works to develop each child's lifelong love of learning. Garden of Learning has numerous native plants, and a seasonal vegetable garden where both children and parents can participate. Our program is quite outdoor oriented, and the curriculum extends learning outside. Surrounded by mature trees, Garden of Learning has a "naturalistic playground" designed to connect children to the natural world. Garden of Learning is dedicated to maintaining a healthy indoor and outdoor environment. The preschool serves all organic foods.
