Join us in planting native plants and garden cover crop! Please join us at Paradise Parking Plots community garden on Saturday, Oct 23rd from 9am-12pm to plant out our bioswale and winter cover crop! This community-designed bioswale is paired with a food forest so that it cleans and mitigates harmful stormwater while also increasing food security for the refugee and immigrant populations we serve. During this event we will be planting native plants, tilling garden plots, amending beds with compost, and planting winter cover crop. COVID-19 Considerations: We are not requiring masks in accordance with King County Masking Guidance since this is an outdoor event where 6' feet distancing is possible; however, we will have disposable masks available for those who would prefer to wear them for the duration of the event. Other Details: Youth under the age of 15 must be supervised by a parent or guardianThis event will happen rain or shine, so please dress appropriately with closed toed shoes/boots, layers for the weather, clothes that can get dirty. Please bring a refillable water bottle - we will have a cooler available onsiteWashed gardening gloves will be provided; however, please bring your own if possible. The Paradise Parking Plots community garden was an underused parking lot that has transformed into a garden with 50 plots, raingardens, a bioswale, and food forest. It is a place where refugees, immigrants and local community members can gather to grow culturally-appropriate foods that promote a healthier lifestyle, improve food access, foster economic independence, and build community. Thank you for your help in continuing to build and improve our shared space! We seek to see refugees and immigrants welcomed by community, rooted in community, & empowered for community. World Relief Seattle has worked since 1979 to empower local churches and community members to serve refugees and immigrants in the Greater Seattle Area. Originally founded to care for those fleeing war in Southeast Asia, we have since grown to resettle refugees from almost 50 countries. We are encouraged by the many churches, businesses, and individuals who use their resources and ingenuity to enhance the lives of refugees and immigrants throughout Western Washington.
