This free speaker series will address stigma reduction in faith communities related to mental health and substance use disorder/addiction. Thursday, Sept. 9 at 7:00 pm Dr. Ebony Speakes-Hall, "The Face to be Free: Erasing the Stigma of Mental Health" (see bio below) and Thursday, Sept. 16 at 3:30 pm Wendy Doolittle, (LISW, PCC-S, LICDC_CS) Understanding the Brain and Addiction (see bio below) Our speakers will help lay the groundwork to reduce stigma, increase understanding, and accompany people as they seek help. Both events will be held in person (face coverings required) at Greater Grace Temple, 380 W. Leffel Lane, Springfield OH, 45506. They will also be livestreamed. Please register as soon as possible, and no later than noon on the day of the talk to receive a link for livestreaming. Bios: Dr. Ebony Speakes-Hall is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of Dr. Ebony Speakes-Hall and Associates, where she offers clinical services and individual and corporate coaching. Dr. Ebony consults with businesses and nonprofits in diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice. Dr. Ebony is a tenure-track Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Cincinnati, serves as the President for the ACLU of Ohio, and is the former Vice-President of the National Association of Social Workers. Dr. Ebony is an advocate for LGBT rights, youth in foster care, human trafficking victims, and impacted communities. She is a sought-out motivational speaker for her candid talks on the relationship dynamics and issues facing black women in America. Dr. Speakes-Hall earned her Doctor of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed her Master of Science in Social Administration from Case Western Reserve University and a Master of Divinity from the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University. Wendy Doolittle (LISW, PCC-S, LICDC-CS) is the current CEO of McKinley Hall, a private nonprofit in Springfield, OH, which provides substance abuse treatment and support services in Clark County. She has been with McKinley Hall for almost 30 years, where she has developed multiple programs, including the expansion of 6 recovery houses. She has a strong background in gender specific treatment and program development. She owns a private practice in Springfield Ohio, Amazing Brain Counseling Services. Her expertise is in substance used disorders and trauma. Mrs. Doolittle received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Central State University, a Master of Science in Education from the University of Dayton and a Master of Science in Social Administration from Case Western University. She is currently the Chair of the Springfield Regional Medical Center, Board Member for the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board, Former President and current member of Ohio Recovery Housing and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. These FREE seminars are made available with help from a Stigma Reduction grant from Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services.
