Description

PFAS 2021: State of the Science & Investigative Approaches at DoD Sites The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) Denver Metro Post (DMP) is returning to in-person Monthly Programs. We have shifted to 4th Wednesday as our recurring target. Watch for our forecast 2021/22 Calendar soon, but we are also monitoring Federal/State COVID updates. What: PFAS 2021: State of the Science & Investigative Approaches at DoD Sites Where: Weston Solutions (Denver West) (4th Floor – Large Conference Center) 1626 Cole Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80401 Description: According to the GAO, PFAS cleanup within DOD sites alone is expected to exceed $2 billion in the next few years. While ongoing research is racing toward feasible remedial technologies as well as technologies capable of destroying PFAS, most solutions are still years, if not decades, from prove out. In the meantime, it is critical that our investigative approaches are comprehensive in scope and adaptable to the ever-changing regulatory and technological scenarios. This presentation will discuss the latest state of the science on treatment of PFAS and real-world application of investigation best practices and treatment technologies. Speaker Bios Lisa Kammer, P.G., [email protected] Ms. Kammer is a Principal Project Geologist and licensed Professional Geologist with more than 16 years' experience in hazardous waste site investigations, characterization and remediation, and project optimization and with a focus in emergent and recalcitrant compounds. She serves as Weston's Senior PFAS Leader and Emerging Contaminants Technical Community of Practice Leader and is an active member of the ITRC PFAS Team. Ms. Kammer holds a B.S. in Geology from the University of Northern Colorado and a M.S. in Geology & Geophysics from Boston College. Shaun Cwick, P.G., [email protected] Mr. Cwick is a Senior Geoscientist at Weston. He is a licensed Professional Geologist, holding a M.S. in Environmental Engineering and Science from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. in Geology from Northern Illinois University. During his 11 years’ experience, he has worked with USACE and EPA to apply innovative techniques in the characterization and remediation of soils and groundwater impacted by a variety of contaminants. Mr. Cwick co-leads Weston’s Emerging Contaminants Technical Community of Practice, applying a strong background in groundwater modeling and more than four years of experience working at PFAS impacted DoD installations and military bases.
