International Masonry Institute's Casey Weisdock presents Historic Masonry Repair & Restoration (1 LU/HSW credit). Proof of COVID vaccination is required upon entry Lunch will be provided Historic Masonry Repair & RestorationGet an overview of historic masonry wall assemblies and their evolution from mass, to transitional, to cladding systems. This session explores the differences between these systems and how they function. Learn the rationale and methodology for condition assessment and gain insight into common types of deterioration and material characteristics. Understanding the material properties, the type of construction, and its vulnerabilities helps in developing appropriate repair and restoration solutions. Prioritizing repairs, such as protecting horizontal surfaces, integrating new flashings, and repairing steel elements can help to solve the root cause of damage or water infiltration. General appropriate masonry repair and replacement options are discussed for several types of masonry such as brick, terra cotta, stone, cast stone, and their associated mortar. Finally, see how craftworkers that are trained and educated in masonry restoration are assets to project teams and play a significant role in successful historic masonry projects. About the Speaker Casey Weisdock – Director of Industry Development & Technical Services for the International Masonry Institute Casey is an architectural conservator by training, with a Master of Science in Architectural Conservation from the University of Pennsylvania. With experience in both design and contracting capacities, her professional career has focused on the preservation of historic structures through research of traditional materials/methods and development of contemporary restoration techniques. At IMI, Casey implements IMI initiatives that engage the design and construction community on masonry topics. In her role, she helps develop technical literature and resources for professionals in the field. Casey also assists with creating curriculum for masonry craftworkers focused on both new construction and restoration. In addition to her work with IMI and IMTEF, Casey sits as the Vice-Chair on the board of the Association for Preservation Technology– Delaware Valley Chapter (APT-DVC).
