Join us at the Historic DeLUXE Theater as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the DeLuxe Show with Art for the People! The DeLuxe Show, one of the first racially integrated exhibitions of contemporary artists in the United States, occurred in the remodeled DeLuxe movie theater in Fifth Ward, Houston, from August 22 to September 12, 1971. The Menil Foundation sponsored the exhibition at a time of nationwide controversy on opportunities for Black artists.Join us at the Historic DeLUXE Theater as we reintroduce the theater as an art exhibition space. Art by Bert Samples, Kaneem Smith, George Smith, Mel Chin, David Graeve, Jesse Lott, Emily Sloan, and photographs from the Menil Collection archives.
