Join us at this Oaktober Family Community Event. Learn how to be a squirrel! Darien Garden Club and Indian Prairie Public Library are collaborating to present an Oaktober Family Community Event. Learn to recognize an Oak tree, find out why they are so important, and leave understanding what you can do to help restore the Oak ecosystem. You may even go home with your very own Oak sapling or learn how to plant an acorn to grow your own tree! There will be education, story time, crafts, goody bags and more! What is an Oak? Learn identification skills to identify IL Oaks. What is so great about Oaks? Learn how important Oaks are to the local ecosystem. What can I do? Learn how you can make a difference by adding Oak trees to the landscape. Be a squirrel! Learn how important Oaks are to our little frisky friends, local birds and their nestlings, and other native wildlife. Take home an Oak sapling or acorns to grow your own tree. Enjoy readings and songs related to trees! After the event - at NOON - Meet up with other tree lovers at Darien Community Park to find local Oaks and practice what you've learned. The event will be held in the reading garden and around the Prairie Patch weather permitting. We will move indoors if needed. This is a drop in event, there is no need to register at IPPL. If you register on Eventbrite you will receive reminder emails so that you won't miss this fun event. Did you know that the White Oak is Illinois' state tree? Did you know that young birds need hundreds of moth and butterfly caterpillars to eat during their first weeks? Clean the rain water on your property with an Oak! Where you live was most likely once Oak savanna. And so do WE! Darien Garden Club is a friendly organization filled with fun people who enjoy gardening and want to learn more about their hobby. If you are interested in gardening, you are invited to visit us at any meeting. Contact: [email protected]
