Small Gator Found At North Port Construction Site

NORTH PORT, FL — Workers from the city of North Port's Code Enforcement Division were surprised to find a small gator in a pool of muddy water at a construction site Wednesday morning. "Although he was very content in his newfound bath, a construction site is no home for a growing gator," the city wrote on its Facebook page. The city's Animal Control division was called in to relocate "the little guy" and to find him "a more suitable home," the city said. Gators are usually more active in May and June, which is their mating season, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission website. By late June or early July, female gators build their nest and lay, on average, between 32 and 46 eggs. They hatch from mid-August through early September. Like what you're reading?
