SEATTLE, WA — A driver who tried to get away from police is behind bars after crashing his stolen vehicle into several parked cars in North Seattle, police said.
Around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers on patrol along the Aurora Avenue corridor said they spotted a vehicle they believed was taken in a carjacking.
"The driver in the car appeared to have been repurposed the vehicle for mobile narcotics sales. When police approached the vehicle the driver sped away," police said in a news release.
Additional officers searched the area and spotted the car again. This time, police said the driver, a 31-year-old man, took off in the 900 block of North 85th Street with police chasing after him, as the vehicle had initially been taken in a violent crime.
The suspect driver crashed his vehicle into several parked cars a few blocks away, before surrendering to police as they arrived on scene.
Police said they arrested the man and confirmed the vehicle had been stolen in a robbery a few days prior.
Detectives said they are now working to determine if the man arrested with the vehicle is the same suspect from the earlier carjacking. Detectives are also working to get a search warrant for the stolen vehicle to recover any additional evidence.
Officers booked the man into King County Jail. Additional charges may be forthcoming.
