Join The Children’s Center and The Detroit Pistons in Demystifying Suicide. September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. In 2019, suicide was the second leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 10 and 34, and the fourth leading cause of death among individuals between the ages of 35 and 44. Join The Children’s Center and The Detroit Pistons in Demystifying Suicide. The event will include a keynote speaker, panel discussion between mental health professionals and those who have been impacted by suicide, and opportunities to network and share resources. Timeline: 10:00am - Check in opens, resource tables available 10:30am - Welcome, Keynote Speaker and Panel discussion Keynote Speaker: Frank Blackman Jr. Detroit native, recent alumni of University of Detroit Jesuit, and First year Neuroscience Major at Loyola University ChicagoAt just 18, Frank Jermaine Blackman Jr. has already made a name for himself as a sought-after speaker and prominent youth activist. Before earning alumni status from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School, Frank spent his junior and senior years dedicating his legacy to his peers and student body. As a founding member and former president of U of D Jesuit's BeNice mental health awareness chapter, Frank made his life's journey full of adversity, strength, and impact. Entrance to the building will be on the second floor of the parking garage. Enter through the double doors to the right of the staircase that is facing Amsterdam St. Signage will help direct you to the correct location. All attendees will be required to complete a short COVID-19 health screening and waiver. Masks are not required but highly encouraged.
