Description

NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown police are warning residents to lock their vehicles, following a rash of reports of stolen and burglarized cars over the past week. Police officials did not disclose the number of vehicles that were stolen, or where in town they were taken from, but all of them have been recovered. Additionally, the department did not say how many vehicles were burglarized, or what was stolen. The common denominator, however, is that the vehicles were unlocked and often had keys left inside them. "The individuals are typically entering unlocked vehicles and taking whatever they find of value," said Newtown Police Sgt. Jeff Silver in a post on Facebook (see below). "If they locate the keys, they will take the car," he added. "It is rare that we find a locked vehicle entered, especially at night in a driveway, so please remember to remove your valuables and lock your cars. This is a small step that you can take to help protect your property, and keep you from becoming a victim. Make it a habit."
