Description
Becoming Dementia Friendly Dealing with dementia can be lonely for many families, but we’re working to change that. It is estimated that there will be nearly 20,000 people living with dementia in Pierce County by 2030. By increasing awareness and offering supportive services, LCS Northwest is a leader in creating a dementia-friendly Pierce County. We are offering fun and informative dementia-friendly services in addition to our existing programming. Please contact us if you are interested in: Dementia Friends: **Currently being offered via Zoom! ** Focusing on community education, our goal is to increase awareness for dementia and reduce the stigma associated with it. ***Volunteer as a Dementia Friends Champion after attending a Dementia Friends Info Session and getting trained as a Champion. As a Champion, you will be able to hold Dementia Friends Info Sessions in the community. Music and Memories: **Currently being offered via Zoom! ** Bringing together people living with dementia and others in song. Lyrics are provided on screen, and no singing experience is necessary. ***Volunteers will receive training in Music and Memories and be paired with an artist (the person living with dementia), assist and encourage them to sing, play instruments. Opening Minds through Art (OMA): **Currently being offered via Zoom! ** We pair people with dementia with trained volunteers to create works of art in this 6-week program. ***Volunteers will receive training in the Opening Minds through Art method and philosophy and be paired with an artist (the person living with dementia), assisting them to create beautiful works of abstract art. Build Community and Get Involved We need your help in building a dementia-friendly community. Three ways to get involved are: 1) Listen and Advocate: We want to speak with your community group or organization about dementia. Education is key to reducing stigma. 2) Volunteer: Our training will help you work with people who have dementia. Volunteering is a rewarding experience. 3) Recommend: Share information about our services with others.
