HOWARD COUNTY, MD — A wreath-laying ceremony will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, at 8:46 a.m., marking the time the first plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center during the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the U.S. The ceremony will be held in the Garden of Hope located across from the white outdoor amphitheater at Centennial Park South. The ceremony will honor and pay tribute to the 2,977 victims who lost their lives during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks 20 years ago. Four Howard County residents were among those killed in the attacks. Sarah Clark, 65, of Columbia, was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 77 that crashed into the Pentagon. Retired Master Sgt. Max Beilke, 69, of Laurel, Lt. Darin Howard Pontell, 26, of Columbia and Col. Ronald F. Golinski, of Columbia, died during the attack at the Pentagon. Howard County Executive Calvin Ball, other elected officials and command members from the Howard County Police and Fire Departments and Howard County Sheriff's Office, will honor and pay tribute to all who lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
