DANBURY, CT — Danbury High School will continue to host a drive-thru food distribution for three Saturdays in September. United Way of Western Connecticut and the Connecticut Food Bank, partnered with the City of Danbury and Danbury Public Schools, will continue mass food drive-thru distribution Saturday, Sept. 11, 18, and 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cars can drive-up from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. to receive a box of fresh produce from the Connecticut Foodshare program. This food distribution is not limited to Danbury residents. It is a free program and no registration or documentation is required. Walk-ups will also be accepted. The drive-thru food distribution, hosted by United Way of Western CT and Walnut Hill Community Pantry, provided 68,000 pounds of food to more than 3,400 families in the greater Danbury community throughout the month of August. The food for this distribution is provided by Connecticut Foodshare. More volunteers are needed, and they may sign up online. "Seeing the gratitude on the faces of the people who receive this food is very rewarding," said Isabel Almeida, president of United Way of Western Connecticut. "Many people continue to struggle in our region, despite working hard. Elder care workers, house cleaners, and seniors are among those coming to pick up food. We can't thank the City, the schools, Walnut Hill Community Pantry, and Connecticut Foodshare enough for coming together to make this happen."
