WEST CHESTER, PA — A 2 a.m. police traffic stop over Labor Day weekend saw a West Chester Police vehicle struck by a driver who kept going and who police have charged with driving while under the influence.
On Sept. 4 around 2:15 a.m. officers were making a stop at the intersection of High and Union streets when another vehicle traveling south on High Street struck one of the police squads and kept heading south, failing to stop at the crash scene, according to the police report.
West Chester Police officers followed the vehicle and stopped it. The driver was identified as Sean Welsh, 22, of Center Valley.
Police reported their investigation found Welsh was driving under the influence. Welsh was charged with DUI and other charges related to fleeing the scene of an accident, including failing to stop and give information or render aid.
Court records show Welsh pleaded guilt to a summary offense of open container in June 2020.
