Description

PLAINFIELD, IL — As part of an $850,000 overhaul of the Plainfield Park District-owned Eaton Preserve this summer, the roof on the old shed on the property is being removed this week ahead of a new roof installation. The 75-acre land, located along the DuPage River, received a $400,000 grant from the State of Illinois Open Space Land Acquisition & Development in late 2020. Other improvements on the land include replacing existing playgrounds and volleyball courts, installing picnic areas, and improving site and shelter access, according to a news release from the park district. A gathering plaza will also be added near the raised silo and foundation of a razed barn in the preserve, while a pergola will lead to farm out-buildings to highlight the property's history, according to the park district. As part of the project, a gathering area is being added for planned outdoor programming, and a deck is also being built as an outlook along the DuPage River.
