CHICAGO RIDGE, IL — A Chicago Ridge woman was hit in the face with a brick by a man who police said invaded her home Tuesday evening before absconding with her purse. Police have issued a community alert. Around 11:06 p.m., Chicago Ridge police responded to the area of 106th Street and Ridgeland Avenue for a home invasion. According to police, the woman was sitting in her living room with her sliding door partially open and unlocked when a man entered her resident, carrying a brick. The man hit the woman in the face with it, and demanded money, police said. The alleged intruder was described as a male black in his 20s, wearing a T-shirt and dark jeans. One hand was wrapped in a bandage, police said. With the assistance of other nearby police departments and a helicopter, officers set up a perimeter to search for the man. After several hours, the search was called off when the man wasn't found. The Illinois State Police investigator processed the crime scene. Residents reported a helicopter hovering over the area early Wednesday morning. The woman was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment of her injuries. "We are asking all residents to be alert of their surroundings and please report anything suspicious to us by dialing 911," police said in a statement on Facebook. "Events like this remind us of the need to watch for our neighbors and to lock our doors at night, including our car doors … Please do not hesitate to dial 911 if you see something." The Chicago Ridge Police Department Investigations Division is asking neighbors to check their home security video system to see if it captured the purported home invader before and after the home invasion. Chicago Ridge and Worth residents living in the area bounded by 109th Street south to 102nd Street, north to Ridgeland Avenue east and west to the 6800 block, are asked to check their home security video system for possible footage between the hours of 10:50 p.m. Sept. 7 to 4 p.m. Sept. 8. If you think your system captured something, preserve it and contact CRPD Det. Jim Davey at 708-425-7831.
