Pittsburgh-Area Variety Store Hit With Consumer Alert

SHARPSBURG, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for the Dollar General store on Main Street in Sharpsburg after an inspection turned up evidence of an active pest infestation. Scattered mouse dropping were found on multiple shelves in the grocery aisles and on the pet food shelves. Chewed food packaging was observed on shelves in the grocery and pet food aisles; the products rodents targeted included Frosted Mini Wheats, Vegetable Round Crackers, Rice Krispies Treats, cake mix and dog food. A few mouse droppings were found on a food cart in the warehouse room next to the front loading dock door. Mouse nesting material was found on several shelves of the store. The health department has instructed the store to eliminate all pests, remove all rodent droppings, inspect food items daily and reduce the amount of items on shelves and in the rear storage area to make it easier to monitor pest activities.
