NORRISTOWN, PA — With the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks looming days away, officials in Montgomery County are planning a rededication ceremony for a local monument. The event will be held at the Montgomery County 9/11 Memorial at its new location, the County's Emergency Operations Center in Eagleville, at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 11. Following the ceremony, the county's Public Safety Appreciation Day will take place, including a BBQ, corn hole tournament, 5k run, kids fun run, and more. In addition to honoring victims of the 9/11 attacks, the ceremony will also pay tribute to frontline responders to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers said. Commissioned by the county in 2003, the 9/11 Memorial was designed and built by artist Sassona Norton. It is being permanently relocated to the Eagleville due to the ongoing construction of the new Montgomery County Justice Center in Norristown. The three-person Montgomery County Board of Commissioners will be joined by State Sen. Katie Muth, State Rep. Joe Webster, and other local leaders. The Center is located at 50 Eagleville Road.
