OCEANSIDE, NY — Getting the COVID-19 vaccine is a hot topic for its controversy as so many are unwilling to get the shot. South Nassau Mount Sinai is exploring just how many people are on the outside looking in at the vaccine. A poll conducted by the Oceanside hospital found out that the majority of adults would get a booster shot when it is available. For the hospital's Truth in Medicine survey, they spoke to 600 adults from Long Island and New York City. Among the unvaccinated, 23 percent said they are more likely to get the vaccine now that the FDA has given final approval for the Pfizer vaccine. However, 54 percent said that will not change their minds about getting the shot, South Nassau Mount Sinai said in a statement. Delving deeper, they asked respondents who are hesitant about the vaccine. Forty-three percent of the unvaccinated group said it is either unsafe or they don't trust what the government says about it as the top reasons for avoiding the COVID-19 vaccine. The questionnaire was done between August 24-27 via landlines and cell phones. Poll results have a sampling error of plus or minus 3.9 percent.
