Description
HOOVER, AL — Police officers are on the job to protect and to serve, as is their motto, and recently, a Hoover police officer was honored for doing just that. Officer Chris Lopez was presented the distinguished Hoover Police Lifesaving Award Wednesday by Chief Nick Derzis.
Back in May, Lopez responded to a medical call where a man was found to be unconscious. Lopez retrieved the AED from his Tahoe, and after applying the AED to the patient, it alerted "shock not advised, begin compression."
After Lopez began CPR, the man eventually began breathing on his own for a brief period. Hoover Fire Medics arrived on the scene and took over care for the patient. The man went into arrest several more times, but was eventually stabilized then transported to the hospital.
"Your actions, in concert with Hoover Fire Medics, saved a man's life," Derzis said in the award presentation. "Your commitment to public service, as demonstrated by your response, is meritorious. On behalf on this Department, you are hereby awarded the Lifesaving Award."
