Children’s Museum of Atlanta is soaring into September with educational and whimsical programming all month long! Little ones are invited to embark on an amazing adventure filled with Jedi and Avenger training; science; and fictional universes during TinyCON®. Kids are also encouraged to dive into the world of music and movement on National Dance Day or to visit and celebrate the Jewish holiday of Sukkot! Alongside the interactive programming, the Museum will immerse guests in the creative and comical world of simple machines as it welcomes its brand-new featured exhibit, Rube Goldberg™: The World of Hilarious Invention! on Sept. 18. Bringing hands-on learning to a new level, the Museum will also open its newest programming space for an engineering design challenge, Innovation Station, on Sept. 18. September Special Programming TinyCON® Saturday, Sept. 4 – Sunday, Sept. 5 Calling all Tiny Adventurers! Join Children’s Museum of Atlanta for the fifth annual TinyCON® – a two-day celebration of fantasy, science fiction and fictional universes. Kids will learn how to train like a Jedi; create their own fizzy potions and wands; decorate wings; make Minecraft art; and hunt for Pokémon.   CMA On Stage Jedi Training + Avengers Training Session A: 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. / Session B: 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Science Bar The Science Bar will transform into a Sorcerer’s Lab as kids create fizzy potions and other exciting concoctions. Session A: opens at 9:45 a.m. / Session B: opens at 1:45 p.m. Creativity Café Little ones will craft their own wizard wands and fantasy creatures. Session A: opens at 9:45 a.m. / Session B: opens at 1:45 p.m. National Dance Day Sunday, Sept. 19 During Session A, families are invited to enjoy a special performance by the talented dancers of Chasse Dance Company in honor of National Dance Day! Children will also be treated to performances led by Capoeira Maculelê Decatur and learn about Capoeira – the Afro-Brazilian art form that combines dancing, music and martial arts – through a short lesson during Session B. Capoeira Maculelê Decatur is an award-winning Capoeira academy located in downtown Decatur that offers classes for children and adults. CMA On Stage Storytime: “Planting Stories: The Life of Librarian and Storyteller Pura Belpré” by Anika Aldamuy Denise + Special Performance by Chasse Dance Company Session A: 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.   Storytime: “Planting Stories: The Life of Librarian and Storyteller Pura Belpré” by Anika Aldamuy Denise + Intro to Capoeira (Brazilian Martial Arts) with Capoeira Maculelê Decatur + Learning how to play instruments and sing in Portuguese with Capoeira Maculelê Decatur Session B: 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Science Bar Kids will learn about magnets and circuits. Session A: opens at 9:45 a.m. / Session B: opens at 1:45 p.m.   Innovation Station This new programming space allows kids to explore, learn about NASA engineer Scarlin Hernandez and gain hands-on engineering design experience by designing their own spacecraft! Session A: 9:45 a.m. / Session B: 1:45 p.m. Sukkot Sunday, Sept. 26 Session A will feature a celebration of the Jewish holiday Sukkot! Also called the Feast of Tabernacles, Sukkot is a joyful holiday celebrating the gathering of the harvest. Special guest Helene Kates of The Baal Shem Tones will be on Stage for a fun-filled musical celebration. Little artists will also create their own Sukkot crafts! CMA On Stage Storytime: “The Very Crowded Sukkah” by Leslie Kimmelman + Sukkot Celebration with Special Guest Helene Kates Session A: 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. An all-new featured exhibit… Rube Goldberg™: The World of Hilarious Invention! Exhibit Opening Saturday, Sept. 18 Inspired by Pulitzer Prize winning humorist and inventor Rube Goldberg’s iconic contraptions, humorous storytelling and inventive cartoons, the Rube Goldberg™: The World of Hilarious Invention! Exhibit immerses children in a collection of new 3D, life-sized machines and hands-on, interactive components that connect Rube’s cartoon contraptions to the way things work in the physical world. The engaging experiences provide insight into the legacy of Rube Goldberg and how classic engineering principles can be reimagined as entry points for deeper exploration of STEAM concepts for 21st-century learning.
