Environmental Compliance Specialist Fast Paced Environmental Consulting firm is looking for a driven individual to join our team full time as an Environmental Compliance Specialist. Individuals with a proven track record in the hazardous materials transportation field are a plus but not required-we will train the right person. The candidate will work closely with the Managing Director, Sr. Project Manager and Field Supervisor. Ideal candidates will be team players and possess a willingness to learn, thrive in a fast-paced working environment. Must demonstrate a genuine willingness to be helpful to clients and be a highly effective communicator of scientific concepts to laymen. Required soft skills include people skills, punctuality, reliability, and the ability to multi-task. Must be hardworking, highly motivated and organized. Responsibilities Facility/Warehouse/Office • Generate legal documentation to accompany hazardous, non-hazardous and universal waste including hazardous waste manifests, universal waste manifests, LDRs • Assist with Warehouse Inspections of 10-day stored waste • Be responsible for meeting and maintaining EPA and State of HI DOH record keeping requirements regarding Used Oil permit data tracking, and manifesting • Answer phones, take messages, perform admin duties, schedule upcoming projects via phone and/or email • Demonstrate a high level of customer service to clients and/or prospects both in person and over the phone EH&S Details: • Generate hazardous waste profiles, LDRs and transport manifests inclusive of printing all forms of documentation as well as labels to accompany waste • Waste profiling • Identify, profile and direct waste streams to disposal facilities in accordance with all regulations and facility acceptance criteria • Oversee the collection, treatment, storage, transportation, and shipping of hazardous waste for safe and legal handling • Maintain, analyze and distribute environmental records • Order, analyze and interpret laboratory reports from various types of site sampling. • Create environmental reports of various types to the State and on behalf of specific clients • Occasionally work in the field to collect Soil, Oil, Air, and possibly other samples. • Assist with project plans and site assessments • Keep abreast of environmental regulations so the organization's environmental management policies remain current, compliant and relevant • Maintain positive relationships with clients and vendors • Participate actively in the development of operational goals and objectives • Respond to inquiries immediately and handle administrative tasks on each account Miscellaneous • Assist in maintaining documentation within the company server • Be willing and capable to wear “Many Hats” • Assist administration with various tasks Qualifications, Education, Skills & Experience • Associates Degree or equivalent in Compliance, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Biology, Industrial, Chemical or Manufacturing Engineering or a related EHS, Safety field. • Strong preference given to candidates with completed Bachelors. Liberal arts majors with completed pre-med requirements or minors in the biological sciences will also be considered • Mandatory-must have completed one year of college level General Chemistry and at least one quarter of Organic Chemistry • At least 1 to 2+ years of experience in the workplace, including office and/or field • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Excel, Word, and Outlook. • PC experience, Mac a plus. Must be demonstrably computer literate • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, EPA, State and local regulations is a plus • 24-40-hour HAZWOPER certification & other relative extended education a plus • Knowledge of regulations that pertain to position (i.e., 29 CFR, 40 CFR, 49 CFR, Title 22 CCR, etc.), DOT training for the handling and shipping of hazardous waste (especially over the water) a plus • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written • Ability to prioritize work, develop strategies and meet changing, demanding deadlines while assuring accuracy, high level of customer service and completeness of work with the best attitude • Ability to travel 5-10% of the time within the Hawaiian Islands during the work week (M-F) approximately 1- 4 times per year, depending on projects. • Strong focus on safety culture • Ability to be pliable with challenging situations and last-minute changes • Positive attitude and willingness to learn new tasks. Know where to find your answer/resourceful • Mental plasticity and resilience • Knowledge of Laboratory Chain of Custody Sheets, ability to interpret analytical reports, pulling waste samples and properly packaging for shipment to lab.
