Community forums to share diverse perspectives & develop adaptation strategies You have been personally identified to participate in these community forums to share your perspective on recent impacts to our economy and well-being, and your vision for the future. Since 2015 the most significant impacts to the La Plata County local economy have happened in the wake of environmental and public health crises, including the Gold King Mine Spill, the 416 Fire, and COVID-19. Diverse perspectives like yours are necessary for developing adaptation strategies that will make our communities and economy more resilient to future environmental and public health crises. Forums will take place: at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO from 1-3 PM on FridaysFollowed by a community social from 3-4:30 PM where refreshments will be provided. As a participant you are expected to attend two Friday forums either in October (Group A) OR November/December (Group B), AND a final wrap up in January for everyone. Group A: Oct. 1 & Oct. 22, 2021Group B: Nov. 19 & Dec. 3, 2021Groups A & B together: Jan. 28, 2022Anticipated Outcomes: Center community voice in adaptation planningReceive feedback and guidance on interventions that local government, including public health, can implement to support adaptation to environmental and health stressors, as well as information needsConceive of solutions that local businesses can implement to adapt to environmental and health stressorsAll in-person plans are subject to change based on public health guidelines. We will abide by SJBPH COVID-19 recommendations for safely meeting in-person, and may meet outdoors, weather permitting. These events will be facilitated by our collaborative team and Sandhya Tillotson, with Sagebrush Ltd.
