Description
Volunteer with Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition to keep event attendees' bikes safe during 2021 Day on the Bay! Day on the Bay is an annual celebration of the South Bay historical Alviso community. Sign up for a 3.5 hour shift to supervise a bike parking area for all event goers who arrive on two wheels! Scooters, bikes, e-scooters, e-bikes, strollers, skateboards - help keep the community's transportation well-kept during this great event! What to expect: the Day on the Bay organizers will construct an open-air, fenced off area that will be filled with bike racks to store bicycles and other people-powered transportation devices. Your responsibility as a bike parking volunteer is to intake the bikes and other items, provide customers with a receipt ticket stub, attach the ticket to the bike, keep an eye on the bikes during the event, return bikes when their owners come back, and enjoy the festivities before or after your shift! Reservation Details: You may reserve volunteer spots by registering one ticket per volunteer. If you would like to bring 3 volunteers from your group, you need to register their name (or yours as a place holder) for each ticket. Please enter all information as accurately as possible. If you do not end up needing all of the tickets you originally registered for, please cancel your reservation(s) and notify the Bike Parking Manager at [email protected]. If you sign up for a shift, please let us know if things change as early as possible. It is critical we have all spots reliably filled well before each event. Please add this event to your calendar so you do not forget! Qualifications: Volunteers must be able to verbally or non-verbally greet customers. Some volunteers need to hand over or accept ticket stubs. Some volunteers need to be able to wheel and lift bicycles. Volunteers should be able to read ticket numbers and find the matching number ticket in the corral. Other Details: We recommend you arrive by bicycle to avoid parking difficulties. Please reach out with any questions to [email protected]. Youth under age 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Minors ages 14-17 must provide a signed release waiver, available here. Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC), a 501(c)(3) non-profit committed to creating a healthy community, environment, and economy through bicycling for people who live, work, or play in Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, is committed to having 10% of trips made by bicycle by 2025.
