BROOKLYN, NY — The MTV Video Music Awards are headed back to Brooklyn this week, marking the first full return of the award show since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. The award show is set to kick off with an audience for the first time in two years at the Barclays Center on Sunday, Sept. 12. The event, along with two days of pre-production filming, will bring privacy measures and road closures to the Brooklyn venue. The VMAs were also held at the Barclays in 2020, though performances were filmed throughout the city given limits on in-person fans. The 2020 show was he first time the VMAs were held at the Barclays Center since 2013. This year, Justin Bieber, rapper Megan Thee Stallion and Billie Eilish are leading nominations for the awards. Performances will include Olivia Rodrigo, Doja Cat, Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Lil Nas X and others, according to the VMA website.
