Doe Rescued From Middle Of Long Island Sound By Fishing Charter

LONG ISLAND SOUND, NY — A slow fishing day on the waters of the Long Island Sound took an unexpected turn when a chartered fishing boat from New Rochelle was called on to haul in an unlikely catch on Labor Day. The crew and passengers of the Klondike IX came across a doe struggling to swim in the sound several miles from shore. Although deer are known to swim across the sound frequently without any difficulty, the crew of the boat, which launches from Neptune Park in New Rochelle, reports that this deer was having trouble staying afloat. "We came upon this doe struggling to keep her head above water in the middle of the sound a couple of miles from shore and we knew she didn't have much time," Klondike IX representatives said in a social media post about the timely rescue. "Thanks to Captain Jason, our mate Eryk Francesco Wenziak our good friend Tom Bellantoni and some of our customers, this young deer was brought back to shore and released safely," adding, "love that we have such caring customers that wouldn't have it any other way, even if it took time away from their trip."
