BROOKLINE, MA — District Attorney Michael Morrissey has sent a letter to Chief Justice Amy Nechtam requesting a meeting to discuss Brookline's juvenile court cases. The request comes after Chief Justice Paul Dawley's decision to move the town's juvenile court cases from Brookline District Court to Norfolk County Juvenile Court in Dedham starting Tuesday, September 7, which was met with concerns from several local officials. "Just this weekend, the Brookline police arrested a Boston juvenile on serious charges," said Morrissey. "Hopefully we can have this meeting as soon as possible." Morrissey said he would like the meeting to have both an in-person and Zoom option and include stakeholders such as members of Brookline's legislative delegation, the District Attorney's Office, the defense bar, Probation, the Brookline Select Board, Brookline Police Department, and local practitioners. "Your help and assistance would be appreciated in moving forward on a meeting that would allow for an exchange of ideas and concerns among all involved," he continued. Morrissey denounced the decision in a separate letter to Nechtam last month, in which he criticized the lack of dialogue with the Brookline community and expressed support for keeping local juvenile cases in the town.
