FREEHOLD, NJ — A water main break at Pond Road near Glendale Drive in Freehold Township is posing a possible threat and residents in the area are being asked to boil their water before consuming it. The preventative measure announced Wednesday afternoon will be in place until testing of the water supply is deemed satisfactory, according to an advisory message from the borough. Earlier in the day, the Borough has issued a statement on social media saying that an a contractor had damaged a water main in town but that, besides lower water pressure, residents should not be concerned with water quality. The impacted area are: Monument Street # 29-53, 40-59Pond Road # 78-128, 85-129Topanemus Lane # 24-56Crestwood Drive # 2-12, 3-11Any water that is to be consumed should be boiled for one minute. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, preparing foods, mixing baby formula, food, juices or drinks, washing vegetables and fruit, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth and washing dishes until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. The borough is also recommending a few other measures: Throw away uncooked food or beverages or ice cubes made with tap water during the day of the advisory;Keep boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking;Do not swallow water while showering or bathing;Rinse hand-washed dishes with a diluted bleach solution (one tablespoon of household bleach per gallon of tap water) or clean your dishes in a dishwasher using the hot wash cycle and dry cycle;Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using bottled water; most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from microorganisms;Use only boiled water to treat minor injuries;Provide pets with drinking water that has been boiled (and cooled). Residents should follow the advice until notified that the water quality is satisfactory
