NASHUA, NH—A new mural in Nashua celebrates the natural beauty along the city's riverwalk. Last month, Colombian artist Felipe Ortiz installed a mural featuring the great blue heron, a species of waterfowl found along the Nashua River. Ortiz's mural is 120 feet long and 12 feet tall, stretching along the riverfront. The mural installation is part of an ongoing partnership between the city and nonprofit organization Beyond Walls to enhance the downtown riverfront, according to a news release. The city and the nonprofit have been collaborating to revitalize the downtown district since 2019 as part of the Riverfront Master Plan, comprising a 1.8-mile stretch of the river from Mine Falls Park upstream to the Bridge Street Bridge. Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess said the city is excited to partner with Ortiz and Beyond Walls. "Public art contributes greatly to the vibrancy of our downtownand our community as a whole," Donchess said in the news release. "Ortiz is an incredibly talented artist. His mural captures the beauty and of Nashua's Riverfront and I encourage everyone to come check it out." Beyond Walls is a Massachusetts-based nonprofit "dedicated to activating public spaces to strengthen communities." Founder and CEO Al Wilson said Beyond Walls appreciates the opportunity to continue collaborating with Nashua officials and the broader community. "This project reflects Beyond Walls' mission of making art accessible to the broadest possible audience while galvanizing support for the businesses that make downtown districts dynamic and welcoming," Wilson said in a news release.
