Debs Parks Brush Fire Jams Up 110 Freeway Rush Hour

LOS ANGELES, CA — Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters battled a quarter-acre brush fire near the (Harbor) 110 Freeway in Ernest E Debs Regional Park Thursday afternoon. The blaze broke out near the northbound 110 Freeway at Via Marisol in Montecito Heights shortly before 4 p.m., according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange. By 5 p.m., crews had the brush fire contained. "With 83 ground and air personnel assigned, it took firefighters 68 minutes to surround the 1/4-acre fire with hose lines and fire line and achieve full containment, " said Prange. The blaze burned in medium to heavy brush, according to Prange. Smoke from the blaze could be seen for miles around. The northbound side of the freeway was slowed to a crawl shortly before 5 p.m., averaging about 20 miles per hour, according to SigAlert.com
