WHITE PLAINS, NY — The city of White Plains will hold its annual September 11th Remembrance Ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday. It will be at Liberty Park on Lake Street, which is the site of the city's permanent 9/11 memorial. The city will join with 60 communities across America due to the White Plains Youth Bureau's Social Justice for Youth Community Youth Court. The court program was named an official partner for the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 Day of National Service and Remembrance. As part of the award, the court program received a special 9/11 Flag of Honor that includes the names of all 2,983 people killed on Sept. 11, 2001, and Feb. 26, 1993. The Flag of Honor visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York City June 27 and was physically on the ground where the Twin Towers once stood. White Plains will display this flag during its 9/11 ceremony and, later, in the City Hall Rotunda. The ceremony will honor the six White Plains residents who died on Sept. 11, 2001, and will include messages from Mayor Tom Roach, County Executive George Latimer, District Attorney Miriam Rocah. There will also be a wreath laying and placement of flower bouquets by members of the White Plains Common Council. The rain location will be Ebersole Ice Rink at Delfino Park on Lake Street.
