Progressive Rock/Folk band Kelp Monkey is looking for a Drummer and a Bass player to join the team. The music we play ranges through a large diaspora, when playing out we play 50% originals and 50% covers with inspiration stemming from 60s and 70s rock/folk/funk (Pink Floyd, Simon and Garfunkel, and The Meters) moving into modern masters like Radiohead, The Shins, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. The skills we bring to the table are impeccable vocals and tight harmonies over a large style spectrum, a respectable original song catalog, and solid acoustic and electric guitar chops. The current project we’re looking to initially support with you as a potential new member is a 15 song album. While in the studio we hired the rhythm section from the bay area funk act “Con Brio” to back us. We did a majority of the album live, if you’re interested we can give you a pre release copy of the album so you can hear our chops in a band setting. We have considered using work-for-hire musicians for our initial release but feel we’re ready to add new contributing members to the band. We’re looking forward to growing and recording more albums together with new contributing members instead of hired hands. The most magical scenario is that we find a bass player and a drummer team that has had plenty of time playing together and are looking to contribute to something new. Initially the push would be to learn the album material (15 songs) and 10 - 15 covers. We’d practice weekly at SCRS and gig 2 times a month. We’re looking for musicians with the time and the chops to be ready to gig within a month or two. About Us: Over the last 15 years we have been a studio focused duo writing a respectable catalog of songs, dialing in harmonies, and working on music when our priorities of family (we both have children) and tech life has allowed. With more time on our hands and as our children are getting older we finished a polished studio album and were planning to gig and tour in the spring of 2020 but Covid had other plans. Now that the light is at the end of the tunnel we’re looking to create a solid band with new contributing members, we’ve got the vocal, guitar, and keyboard chops. We need you to complete the magic!
