Description
I’m looking for a 3 or 4 bedroom home (to rent) by October 1st.
I’m a single (separated) hardworking Black mother. I work full time. I have my own car. I don’t indulge in drugs. Rarely drink. Loner. My peace is important to me. My kids are respectful, intelligent and well-behaved.
I’ve resided at my current address for almost 10 years. During that time, I occasionally faced hardships, and fell behind. Fortunately the Emergency Rent Assistance program paid my arrears. I qualified for 3 months of additional rent, which my landlord refused…simply because I no longer allowed her to speak to me in the respectful manner in which she was accustomed. I grew tired of it & stood up for myself, including insisting she make repairs to the house. Up to that point, she was willing to work with me. I have proof of everything I’ve stated.
I was able to get assistance through legal aid to represent me in court (9/14/21), but my landlord’s attorney says my landlord is adamant about evicting me.
With the eviction filing on my record, it’s been hard for me to find a new place. I’m not making excuses or looking for handouts or sympathy. I just can’t have my kids on the streets.
Rent assistance will pay first month’s rent, deposit and 3 months’ rent. Yes, I will be able to afford rent.
