Description
Hello. I am looking for a band or individual musicians interested in collaborating on a spoken word project. I have texts written that I would like to weave in with great music. I appreciate all musical instruments and talent. Passion can be felt no matter what the medium :-) I am a performance artist and am looking for ways to connect with people that transcend our atomized experiences resulting from an increasingly digital world. Live music is magic and can hit people in the soul. My texts are vulnerable and plain, accessible and do not hold back. A lot of my suffering and inspiration comes from the lack of connection I perceive amongst people in today's cities. Lack of connection can translate to oppression. Though I prioritize live performances and moments of connection I understand the importance of using digital tools. I like thinking about how social media can be used in an aggressive and intentional, and not passive, way as a user. I have been singing my entire life and at one point was pursuing a career in music. As a child I was trained in piano, vocals and guitar but prefer to focus on performance and vocals. I do not imagine heavy melodic or repetitive singing for this project - I hope for my vocals to weave in and out and complement other instruments. I would be really open to experimenting and seeing what works well. I do not have a specific genre in mind - I think we can take elements that work well from different genres and adapt them to whatever genre we like. I like experimental jazz and electronic, folk, hip hop/rap, Latin, dance-rock, synth pop, reggae, everything. Hope to connect and jam together to see how things go. Some influences: Lhasa de Sela - she began as a singer in a traveling circus - I love her sound. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6poApBn_KqM Citizen Cope's "Let the Drummer Kick" - I would love to do a liberally interpreted cover of this (instruments could vary) - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=IIYcpkpCmiE Agar Agar "Fangs Out" - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZoN0HRdF0Ws Gina X Performance - I like the dramatic energy.
