Description

Breast Health Educational Event for Women Join us on Sunday, October 3, 2021 as we kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with our Breasts & Barbells event! This fun-filled afternoon of food, fun and fellowship was created in the spirit of honoring our commitment to the health and well-being of our community, and to raise continued awareness of breast health education for women. In addition to the activities, attendees will have the opportunity to hear stories of inspiration from a cancer survivor and a previvor, and learn the importance of early detection and self-advocacy in health care. Proceeds from this event will support women going through active treatment of breast cancer. ------------------- According to the American Cancer Society, Breast cancer is the most common cancer in American women, except for skin cancers. The average risk of a woman in the United States developing breast cancer sometime in her life is about 13%. This means there is a 1 in 8 chance she will develop breast cancer. Black women are 40% more likely to die of breast cancer than white women and are twice as likely to die if they are over 50 References: American Cancer Society. Cancer Facts and Figures 2021.
